Version history
You will learn what appears in version history, how it differs from live editing, and how published editions fit in.
Open version history
- Open the page.
- Click Version history in the page header.
- Browse the list of checkpoints — automatic saves, manual restores, and published editions.
What history contains
Version history is a timeline of snapshots, not a keystroke-by-keystroke log. A new checkpoint typically appears after:
- Background auto-save cycles while you edit
- A restore from an earlier snapshot (writers)
- A publish action that creates a reader-facing edition
If you just typed a few characters, you may not see a new line until the next save or publish.
Writers versus readers
| Role | What you usually see |
|---|---|
| Writer | Checkpoints from saves, restores, and publishes (subject to permissions). |
| Reader | Often published editions only — the same checkpoints readers are meant to rely on. |
Writers with permission can restore an older snapshot into the live document. Review the live canvas after a restore; you may still need to publish if viewers should see that content.
Published editions
Filter or scan for published entries when you care about what viewers received, not every intermediate auto-save. Each publish in Publish a page adds a published checkpoint you can compare or restore from.
